This is—beyond a shadow of a doubt—the best scanner on the market and the one you should buy.

Launched in June of 2018, it's the newest and...I'd say shiniest...but it's flat black (not even matte, which is the only disappointing aspect of this scanner).

The SDS100 is fast, easy to use, has a color interface, and simulcast monitoring capabilities that blow all the other digital phase 2 scanners out of the water. That reminds me: it's waterproof(!) Uniden has set a new standard with the SDS100.

What’s the difference between the SDS100 and the BCD436HP?
Go to 'Specifics & Compare' tab to see all technical differences. The main differences are:

› The SDS100 can pick up simulcast.
› Faster; the SDS100 is suppose to be 25%-50% faster than the BCD436HP.
› Clearer screen resolution.
› SDS100 is 'water proof'.
› SDS100 is more sensitive and superior at picking up weak signal and 'RF environments'.
› The SDS100 can charge and run at the same time; the BCD436HP must be powered down to charge.
› You can customize the color screen to show what you’d like.
› BCD436HP came out in 2013; SDS100 in June 2018. Like all new technology there have been several minor upgrades.

What’s the difference between the SDS100 and the Whistler TRX-1?
Go to 'Specifics & Compare' tab to see all technical differences. The main differences are:

› The SDS100 can pick up simulcast distortion.
› TRX-1 came out in 2016; SDS100 in June 2018. Like all new technology there have been several minor upgrades.

I need a digital phase 2 scanner, why should I buy the SDS100?
The SDS100 is the newest scanner on the market and the new flagship scanner from the largest police scanner manufacturer in the world; Uniden. The simulcast capabilities are one of a kind and you can buy add ons for NXDN, DMR and ProVoice. So basically, this scanner can pick up everything possible no matter where you live.

Will the SDS100 go on sale anytime soon?
We don't know. Uniden does not disclose when they will be dropping prices and even when prices do drop, it’s only $5 -$10. You can sign up for our emails & we'll keep you posted.

What are ProVoice, EDACS and NXDN and do I need them?
These 3 are forms of digital phase 2 that affect some parts of the U.S.. If your area uses these - you must add them (buy above) to hear those broadcasts. Not sure if your area uses these formats? No biggie (this is confusing) chat with a scanner expert now and we’ll look up your area.

Additional memory?

You can add a larger memory (SD card) to increase favorites lists and recording space. Recording time by SD card size:

› 2 GB = 6 hours
› 4 GB = 12 hours
› 8 GB = 24 hours
› 16 GB = 50 hours
› 32 GB = 100 hours
› 64 GB = 200 hours

What is simulcast distortion?

Check out our simulcast distortion article to learn more.

Software Upgrade Fees

The rate we charge includes the software license(s) and our time to install upgrade. You can upgrade on your own directly from Uniden after you receive your scanner but we will not provide support if you do not purchase from us.

Does this come with the larger battery?

› Simulcast distortion monitoring works as advertised.
› 25%-50% faster than the BCD436HP & TRX-1.
› SD card placement is better than BCD436HP so card is not easily corruptable.
› Much more sensitive and can pick up weak signals.
› Able to charge and run at the same time, unlike the BCD436HP.
› Customizable color screen is easier to read than the black & white BCD436HP.
› The stock antenna is just OK. Uniden degraded the antenna to get certified waterproof. This on set antenna increases range up to 100%.
› Battery issue: There was a battery issue when first launched which has been fixed, this issue will not affect any orders placed after November 2018.
› If knob (multi function scroll) is not functioning properly, pull the knob off and reattach.
› New battery tends to get hot—doesn't always last 8 hours as Uniden suggests.

Police Scanner Programming FAQ

What is 'One Touch Start Up'?

Adding this with programming allows our technicians to make hardware, software & frequency updates prior to shipping your scanner. You can buy only the programming which will give you everything needed to listen in your area but 'one touch start up' ensures a smooth experience right from the start with zero technical know-how. 'One touch start up' is popular with gifts as this allows the scanner to simply 'work' by powering on.

How long does this take?

Programming adds 1-2 additional business days to delivery.

What if this does not work?

We have a 100% money back guarantee if you’re not happy with your programming.

How are you so much cheaper than other scanner programming places?

We’re awesome.

Can you program X, Y, Z?

We can program anything that is in Radio Reference. If you have frequencies that are not in Radio Reference, as long as you can put them in a CSV file, we can program them.

What if I need help?

We’re always here to help.

Can I programming this scanner myself?

We created a programming decision tree as well as programming videos (above) to help you decided on whether you should include professional programming with your scanner but we HIGHLY recommend adding programming.

Can't I just punch in my zip code for programming?

When you type in your zip code, it scans EVERYTHING in your area, which is kinda like getting the phone book thrown at you. This is why over 95% of orders include programming & why we highly recommend. Our professional programming filters the junk out so you don't have to listen to things such as the dog catcher, repo guy, power company & such.

How long does programming take?

It takes our scanner tech over an hour to program each scanner & this is ALL he does. For new & moderate scanner users we estimate 3-12 hours of programming. Setup time varies wildly based on scanner, area as well as scanner & general tech familiarity.

Why should I buy programming?

Programming is the #1 reason police scanners are returned. While scanner programming is much easier than the days of crystal scanners, there is a learning curve like any other electronics purchase. While some scanner enthusiasts are highly technical and want to learn the ins and outs of programming, others want their scanner to just ‘work’ right out of the box. 95% of all scanner sales include programming, so unless you’re familiar with scanners, scanner terminology, own a PC (Mac’s do not work), and want to learn the nuances of programming, we highly recommend having your scanner professionally programmed. Scanner technology is fairly user friendly, but scanners are not smartphones or iPads. If you're spending hundreds on a scanner; we recommend springing a few extra bucks so it works right out of the box.

Can't you teach me programming with your lifetime technical support?

No. Lifetime technical support is not unlimited technical support. We are always here to help, love to do so. We made how to videos and can help point you in the right direction, but we will not teach programming.

I was having second thoughts about buying the SDS 100 because it was a new model and the price was high. After talking with Luke the owner he assured me they would get my order packed and shipped ASAP 2 days later it was here. I have been very satisfied with the scanner now that I have had it for over a week. There is a learning curve but I know if I have any questions I will be able to call Luke and his staff for help. I have been OK with the battery life but look forward to the extended battery life of 8 hrs. when Upman and Uniden sending me a larger battery and battery cover free, to get this make sure you register your new SDS100 on myuniden One note the new unit does get a little warm to the touch not sure if the larger battery will change that! One thing I'm finding location is very important on a P25 Phase II system also the squelch setting in my case I have it set to 0 when not close to a transmitter, the default setting is 2. One other note this unit does let you listen and charge the battery at the same time that's a big plus for me. (Posted on 6/23/2018)

I gotta say the one review on here that said it’s not much better then the 436hp is full of crap.
No the battery last around 6 hours but we all new that a battery replacement was in the works.
Speaker is 50% better sounding then the 436 and the display....well it just blows out the 436 in every way possible.
Sentinal with the software updates is killing it.
Now gives you access to the display screen for much easier customization which is outstanding.
Just using the stock rubber duck antenna the performance is great. I’m using a Wilson Yagi 700/800mhz directional antenna (which I recommend to anyone) and I’m picking up more with the SDS100 then the 436hp.
If your in the hobby this is a great scanner 65% better then the 436hp 30% on the display features 35% ont better reception.
Am sure this will be the last scanner I buy in my life time it’s just that good and honestly there’s nothing more they can add to it unless they make one that makes my morning coffee.
5 ⭐️ ‘s. (Posted on 6/22/2018)
Not much better then the Uniden 436HPReview by EOM
Review Rating
Some of the new features do not yet work per Uniden. The included battery only gives 3.5 hours and with the display feature bug, The real battery life is less than 2-hours. Uniden reports they may have replacement batteries in July and then some may be available to purchase a spare. Like the 436HP, a premature product release.

Putting it side by side with the Home Patrol II and the 436HP I see no difference. In fact my local trunk system only has 20 analog frequencies and I only monitor 10 ID's and I miss 30 % of the responding conversations just as I did on the 436HP & HP II. My old Pro96 from Radio Shack captured 90+% of all conversations on the same system.

The antenna mount is designed for water resistance...not bad but other (dedicated frequency) SMA antennas do not naturally fit and the BNC selection (if you use the included adapter) of hand held antennas these days is limited. if you use the included adapter. If you travel or live in a fringe area you should have an antenna for the primary band you are monitoring.

The audio is sub slightly par compared to the the 436HP and HP II due to speaker size.
Programming is easy if you use the software download, however Uniden does not provide downloads of some files necessary for operate in Windows 10. Their answer is use Windows 7. The software works well in Windows 7 and is the same (once updated) as for the 436HP.

The radio shipped quickly and in excellent condition. Upon the first use, the radio was easy to setup and program. The reception is exceptional even with the stock antenna but the speaker sound quality was average. The battery life could be better but a new battery from Uniden should be available later this summer. Overall the radio performs as advertised and it a great addition to my collection. I am very satisfied with the Uniden SDS100. The radio operates as described with simulcast and P25 systems in the Massachusetts area. I have a mobil antenna and an antenna connected at home and see a great difference in coverage over previous P25 capable scanners. Your service was great, fast polite service and will do business with your company again. Thank You Bob (Posted on 6/15/2018)

Let me first mention that I also own the Whistler TRX2.
This SDS100 is in a class of its own. I live about 48 miles north-west of the Baltimore MD area, just south of the PA/MD Line. This scanner is picking up control channels that I have never heard on the TRX2 or mt RTL-SDR dongles with Unitrunker setup. Even in my basement, I am pulling in all kinds of stations. I'm so glad that we moved so far away from all of the mess in the region. Zip Scanners was amazing. They got this device to me despite being short staffed and overworked due to the high demand for such an amazing piece of gear, The few negatives that I must mention about this scanner.

The screen scratches very easily.
The stock antenna is pretty week
I will be using the Anteenna TW-999BNC as the everyday antenna for this.
Sentinel is fairly easy to comprehend despite being very used to EazyScan

A great purchase a high price. (Posted on 6/14/2018)

Thank you and your team for the great service!

At first I was not to happy with the SDS100, receiving the Cary NC (where I live) P25 system the radio was about as good as my BCD436HP. While attempting to receive the NC Wake County Trunking system the signal strength was so weak that the SDS could not hear the Control Channel and thus would not stop on any ID's. Luckily, I knew from past experience that I probably needed to replace the stock uniden antenna with the radio shack antenna I use on the BCD436HP and the 396XT. Wow, what a difference, I now can receive transmissions that my 436 does not see side by side with the SDS and using the another RS antenna.

I guess after all these years, I can not understand why uniden can not provide a descent antenna, for 800 MHz, with their high end devices, especially on a radio that they developed especially to resolve issues with receiving digital simulcast trunking systems.

Anyway - Again thanks for taking an interest, great customer service, should I decide over time to purchase another radio I will definitely
consider Zip Scanners again. (Posted on 6/13/2018)
