4 Press right arrow or SEL to select ‘Browse Objects’

I did NOT buy programming, how do I program?

You can still add programming! Programming is not easy and can be very frustrating. If your scanner has an SD card we can just program a new card and ship to you. All you need to do is put this programmed card in your scanner and you’re good to go. Easy peasy.

Below is a 4 part video series that walks you through step by step how to program your scanner on your own.

How do I create a backup file of the programming you did?

1 Open EZ Scan software on your PC computer

2 Connect your scanner and computer

3 Within EZ Scan click ‘Scanner/SD card’

4 Select ‘Copy Configuration from Scanner Memory/SD card’. Note it is faster utilizing just the SD card

5 Select which drive your Scanner or SD card is located

6 Select continue until you are on EZ Scan software

7 Select ‘File’

8 Scroll down and select ‘save current configuration to archive’

9 Decide which drive and folder you want this to live on your computer

10 You now have a copy on you computer you can access in the future by selecting ‘File’ and ‘Restore configuration from archive’

How do I update firmware/ CPU / scanner?

How many frequencies can I add on my scanner?

As many as you want….if you bought a digital scanner. Older, non-digital scanners have limits; see scanner product page for details.

How to set a frequency into priority?

1 Find frequency you want to add

2 Press ‘Pause’

3 Press ‘Menu’ button

4 Scroll down to ‘Priority’

5 Check box to enable

6 Press ‘Menu’ button

7 Save changes by pressing ‘SEL’

How to lock out the channels manually?

4 Scroll down to ‘Locked Out’

5 Check box to enable

6 Press ‘Menu’ button

I’m not getting the channels I want (programming complete)?

This comes up all the time. The video below walks you through troubleshooting steps. This video solves 99% of reception issues so please try steps on video before reaching out. If you’ve tried everything on the video and are still not able to pick up what you want, we recommend buying an antenna.

My scanner is programmed, if I take to new location (State) & enter zip code will my programming be deleted?

No. Using the zip code feature will not replace your existing set up and you can add as many frequencies as you’d like so long as you do not actually go through and delete your current programming by hand.

Pro tip: get a 2nd SD card programmed for a different location. Example: You live in Chicago and will spend 4 months in Florida. You can buy a 2nd SD card programmed with all your favorites in Florida and when you get there replace your Chicago programmed SD card with your Florida SD card. That’s it. Buy 2nd card here.

How do I connect Whistler scanner & computer?

I just got my scanner, what now?

Scan! Now you can hear what’s going on in your area. Top things to do:

1 Go to your scanner’s product page and read/watch everything. Best way to get the most out of your scanner.

2 Watch product page videos.

3 Save this page! It will come in handy.

4 Add programming? Great! Create a backup of your programming before doing anything. We will not reprogram scanner for free.

Batteries; how long to charge & how long do they last?

For best battery performance we recommend leaving your scanner plugged in the whole time and only use the batteries when you’re on the go. Note that if you buy batteries from us they are NOT charged when you get them (increases longevity) so you will need to charge when you first put them in. We recommend using 2 sets of batteries so you always have a fresh set. You can buy long lasting batteries and a battery charger.

Note: The TRX-1 is not powerful enough to charge batteries. The solution is an external 4 bay AA battery charger charger. We call this out on the TRX-1 product page and STRONGLY recommend. We do not make the external battery charger mandatory in package as some folks already have an external battery charger and some leave plugged in whole time and never use batteries.

How do I adjust sound or light?

Not a video person? Here are the steps (easier to watch video):

1 Power on scanner, find a channel you know is working.

2 Adjust squelch (knob) until you hear hissing.

3 On the 4 way push pad, press the ‘up’ arrow. This increases the audio volume.

4 On the 4 way push pad, press the ‘down’ arrow. This decreases the audio volume.

5 Adjust squelch to your liking.

My faceplate is scratched

No it’s not. This is the finish Whistler has on their faceplates. You do not have a defective unit, it is not used, this is not a warranty issue and you cannot swop out. Make sure the plastic film is off (hard to tell). This is the way all Whistler faceplates are.

How do I replace the SD card?

CAREFULLY!!! SD cards are delicate so anything can corrupt them. Please be VERY careful when handling. The SD card location is different on all scanners. On the TRX-1 you must remove the case, then the battery cover – the SD card is on the side and you remove by pushing on the card.

How do I remove the case on TRX-1?

Can I link Broadcastify & my scanner?

You can connect your scanner to Broadcastify, then listen to your own streams online. Details are here but basically you setup your scanner at you home to your computer and stream via Broadcastify. See link for details as we do not support this.
